As a kid, when I heard the ice cream truck come by, I’d say to my mom, “Ooh, Ma! The ice cream truck! Can I get some ice cream?”
She’d say, “You got some ice cream money? We got ice cream in the freezer!”
When we were out and about, passing by the golden arches, I’d say, “Ma, can we go to McDonald’s? I want a Happy Meal!”
She’d say, “You got some McDonald’s money? You got some Happy Meal money? You better be happy with that meal you got at home!”
What my mom was saying was, “You better make the most of what you already have.”
The lesson? Rather than complain about what you don’t have, be grateful for what you do have.
