Years ago, while I'm pursuing a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies, a colleague gives me a Bible as a gift. Now, to be honest, I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why she’d buy me a Bible. Didn’t she know I had plenty of Bibles?
I confess that I had taken the Bible for granted.
Weeks pass. During this period, she keeps asking me if I had looked through the Bible.
I hadn’t.
One day she says, “Dr. Enis, please look through the Bible—at least flip through the Bible.”
Later that evening, I comply. As I flip through the Bible, I stumble upon a check for $100! Amen!
My point? When you take things for granted, you could be overlooking a blessing.
