As I’m cleaning the bathroom at my house one day, the shower liner starts talking to me.
Does your shower liner ever talk to you? Mine does!
While I’m scrubbing the toilet, the shower liner says, “Larry!”
I say, “Huh?”
The shower liner says, “I got some things I want to get off my chest.”
I say, “Okay. What’s up?”
The shower liner answers, “First of all, I want you to know that what I’m about to tell you is not for my benefit. But what I’m about to tell you is going to help you with one of your sermons down the road.”
I say, “You need to tell me what’s on your mind then, because I need all the help I can get.”
The shower liner says, “Do you realize that if it were not for me, water would get all over your floor? Do you realize that my purpose is to protect your floors from being damaged? Do you realize I am the first line of defense to keep water from leaking in your house?”
I didn’t fully appreciate the shower liner’s message until I started working on a sermon the week afterwards. That’s when I saw a connection between the shower liner and the Lord. The Lord is your first line of defense. The Lord is your protector. The Lord is your shower liner. And as long as the Lord is hanging up in the right place in your life, you are safe.
